Overview

Hermes is a network management system for small-cell fleets. I wrote its TR-069 (CWMP) protocol layer, the foundation every device connects through. On top of it I worked on zero-touch provisioning, fleet-wide configuration with rollback, task tracking, and KPI views. I also worked on the validation that keeps bad configuration away from live radios.

Architecture

01 Inputs

  • Configuration library
  • Network plan import
  • Validation

02 Operations

  • Single & bulk push
  • Rollback
  • Zero-touch provisioning

03 TR-069 / CWMP

  • Device sessions
  • Parameter management
  • Task queue

04 Network

  • Small-cell fleet

What I did

01 TR-069 protocol

  • Wrote the TR-069 (CWMP) protocol implementation that devices connect to. Provisioning and configuration management are built on it.
  • Hardened parameter handling and task processing so configuration changes apply reliably.

02 Zero-touch provisioning

  • Brought zero-touch provisioning to a working end-to-end state, so new devices configure themselves when they come online.
  • Fixed reliability issues in the provisioning flow, and added safeguards so devices only receive configuration meant for their model.
  • Working on network-plan validation that catches incomplete or inconsistent plans before they are applied.

03 Fleet configuration & operations UI

  • Built configuration pushes to many devices in parallel, with bulk rollback and progress tracking that stays visible in the UI.
  • Built a task-status page with downloadable reports.
  • Made the KPI dashboard configurable, and added live operational status to the device views.
