Nexus Insight NMS
A cloud-native network management system for small-cell fleets: device, fault, performance, and configuration management with northbound integration.
- Period
- Oct 2024 – Mar 2026
- Company
- Nybsys
- Scope
- Flagship NMS · operator deployments
Overview
Nexus Insight NMS is Nybsys’ network management system for 4G LTE small cells. I worked across most of it: the TR-069 auto-configuration server, fault, performance and configuration management, northbound integration, and the Kubernetes platform it runs on in operator networks, including the GP deployment.
Architecture
Kubernetes · TLS ingress · multi-network pods · monitoring
01 Network
- 4G LTE small cells
02 Management
- Auto-configuration server
- Fault · performance · configuration
- File ingest & inventory
03 Data
- Device & fault data
- Performance time series
- Message queues
04 Northbound
- SNMP traps
- Scheduled exports
- Web portal & map
What I did
01 Telecom protocols & OSS
- Built a TR-069 auto-configuration server in Python, with device connectivity tooling and firmware upgrades.
- Added SNMPv3 support and fault traps for northbound systems, validated against real radios.
- Worked across fault, performance, configuration, and inventory management: scheduled data exports, historical reports, alarm synchronization, and device health alarms.
- Added bulk configuration for groups of sites, plus device grouping, configuration backup, and remote operations.
- Built northbound delivery of performance data to operators’ systems.
02 Kubernetes & operations
- Wrote the Kubernetes deployments, staged and tested them, and documented how to build the cluster.
- Set up TLS ingress, cluster DNS, and multi-network pods for operator environments.
- Resolved networking and capacity issues in operator networks.
- Built device monitoring with Prometheus. Log dashboards with Grafana and Loki are in progress.
- Improved service resilience with async processing, message-queue recovery, and retry handling.
03 Scale & quality
- Scaled file transfer and device data storage, and started load testing the auto-configuration server.
- Built a base-station traffic simulator to exercise the NMS without real hardware.
- Wrote the NMS training material for the team.
